Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)
Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is a higher education and research organization established on 01/10/2009 as merger of the University of Karlsruhe, one of Germany’s leading research universities, and Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, one of the largest research centres in the Helmholtz Association. With at 10000 employees, including roundabout 5800 scientists and lecturers, and 22,816 students, KIT holds a leading position in Europe.

KIT will be involved in the project with its Institute of Production Science (wbk). The wbk (Institute of Production Science) of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) with almost 100 employees is one of the largest institutes within the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The three departments Manufacturing and Material Engineering, Machines, Equipment and Process Automation and Production Systems focus on applied research, education and innovation in production science at the KIT.

Besides the research activities in the conventional areas of mechanical and plant engineering, wbk puts emphasis on developing production science for enabling technologies such as energy engineering, electric mobility and lightweight systems. On the one hand, the institute analyses how conventional production technologies and systems can be applied to new materials and on the other hand, it conducts research in up-scaling manufacturing processes and designing future factories and their networks.

New and innovative economic systems are essential to decouple resource consumption from wealth. The traditional linear economic approach of "take, make, use, dispose" is undeniably unsustainable in the long term. Circular production offers a promising solution to this challenge. This is why projects like rEUman play a pivotal role in shaping the future of manufacturing. The key activities of KIT in the rEUman project include the inspection of cores, cyber-physical systems, and circular value stream mapping.
